Health Food Bars Or fast food Bar - the way to Distiguish Between the 2 . HomeThis is a featured page

When buying those 'nutrition bars' you can see on the wrapping they claim to be healthy and good for weight loss or muscle building, but when you read the label, you see a very long list of chemicals, sugars, processed trans fats, and other harmful overly processed ingredients.

There are endless amount of "health bars" and "protein bars" on the market these days that you don't actually know if you are getting something healthy or just junk food in disguise?

If you want to get a truly healthy food bar, you'd need to read carefully the labels.

Just some days back, I was going on a bike ride with a buddy and I required a fast bar for my energy levels.

Well, since I did not have any bars on me, my buddy gave me one of his additional slim fast bar.

You must know that these slim fast bars are marketed as health foods for losing weight.

If you ask me, these slim fast bars are far worse for you than candy bars!

I read the label solely to see what I am putting in my body. After that, the list went on with nothing except junk like synthetic flavours, colors, real bad synthetic sweeteners, some more hydrogenated refined oils, and to wrap it up there had been some highly processed soy protein isolate ( which regardless of popular belief, processed soy isn't healthy for you....

So not only are these "weight loss" bars nutritionally poisoning you, but it essentially tasted absolutely horrible! It tasted like chemicals and was much too very sweetened, ( why does that not amaze me, with such a lot of sugar, corn syrup, sugar alcohols, AND synthetic sweeteners ). This could be a prime example of "over-engineering" of food.

So how does one tell between a healthy protein bar or energy bar?

A real health bar would have the following : Nuts, seeds, and fruit.

1. Organic Food Bars - This is basically the brand name.

Depending on which flavor, these are typically a base of organic almond butter ( or cashew butter ) with a certain sort of fruit, organic seeds, organic biosprouts ( quinoa, etc ), and some organic rice protein. Some tastes include an organic dark chocolate too.

Not only are these bars highly tasty, but I suspect they are tasty as well and have a large amount of flavors to choose between like chocolate chip, blueberry, cranberry, high protein, and more.

You will not find these bars at your local greengrocer, but I have found them at many health food stores.

2. Larabars - These are even faster in ingredients than organic food bars. Sometimes larabars are just two or three ingredients, and often raw...

These are also tasty and you may NEVER see a catalogue of chemicals a mile long in their ingredient list.... usually just nuts and fruit, and that's it! Simple IS better. Again, you won't find these at your local greengrocer, but I have found these at varied health food markets.

When you really find really healthy bars like these examples above, they make great fast nibbles whilst you are traveling or whilst you are at work.

I carry some on me just about at every point, just to make certain I have healthy options to eat whenever I need a fast break, so I am not enticed by fast food joints or fast food snack dispensers. Good luck and be certain to read those labels to make certain you are getting a health food bar and not a candy bar in disguise.
